Colorado's most visited state park sits right on the edge of Pueblo. Whether you're planning a day trip or a week-long camping adventure, here's everything you need to know about Lake Pueblo State Park.
Colorado's most visited state park sits right on the edge of Pueblo. Lake Pueblo State Park spans 4,700+ acres around Pueblo Reservoir, offering year-round outdoor recreation just minutes from downtown.
Getting There
Lake Pueblo State Park is located at 640 Reservoir Rd, about 4 miles west of downtown Pueblo. A Colorado State Parks pass or day-use fee is required for entry.
Hiking
The park has over 20 miles of trails ranging from easy lakeside walks to more challenging canyon routes. The Rock Canyon Trail is a local favorite, offering stunning views of the reservoir and the dramatic red rock formations that characterize this part of southern Colorado.
Boating & Water Sports
Pueblo Reservoir is one of the premier boating destinations in Colorado, with full marina services available from spring through fall. Kayaking, paddleboarding, and wakeboarding are all popular. The reservoir is also world-famous for windsurfing — the consistent winds that funnel through the canyon make this one of the top windsurfing spots in the United States.
Fishing
The reservoir supports excellent populations of walleye, bass, catfish, and wipers. Both shore and boat fishing are permitted throughout the park. Colorado fishing license required.
Camping
Lake Pueblo State Park has several campgrounds with full-hookup RV sites and primitive tent camping. Reservations are strongly recommended from May through September. The park also offers yurt rentals for a more comfortable camping experience.
Day Trips from Lake Pueblo
After a day at Lake Pueblo, consider a day trip to Royal Gorge — just 45 minutes north on US-50. Royal Gorge Rafting offers world-class whitewater on the Arkansas River, while Royal Gorge Zipline Tours delivers one of the most spectacular aerial views in Colorado. For an overnight stay, Royal Gorge Vacation Rentals has riverside glamping in yurts and Airstreams.
Best Time to Visit
Summer is the busiest season with all facilities open and water sports in full swing. Fall is beautiful and less crowded. Winter offers quiet hiking. Spring brings wildflowers and mild temperatures ideal for exploration.
